Who is Dr. V

Dr. Anthony Viegbesie, affectionately called “Dr. V.”, is a first generation American who immigrated to the United States in 1978, at a very young age from his native country of Nigeria, with practically nothing and first found employment as a migrant farm worker in Southern Georgia. “Dr. V” grew up in a poor and humble beginnings. He truly understands the value of self-discipline, dedication, and hard work.He obtained an Associate of Science degree in Agriculture from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia; a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma; a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky; and a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Administration from the Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. He is currently working on his Juris Doctor degree in Law at William Howard Taft University Law School in Santa Ana, California.He is also a 2020 graduate of the National Association of Counties (NACo’s) High Performance Leadership Master Certificate as well as the Florida Association of Counties (FAC’s) County and Advanced Commissioner (CCC & ACC) Certification Programs. And he is a member of the 1997 Class XIV of the Tallahassee Leadership Program.He was a Professor of Economics and Public Administration at Tallahassee Community College from 1985 until his retirement in 2022 and was an Adjunct Professor of Agricultural Sciences, Economics and Public Administration at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University from 1984-2014.He was elected to the Gadsden County Board of Commissioners, District 2 in November 2014 and served as its chairman in 2019, 2020 & 2022 when he decided to retire. He was a past president of the Tallahassee Branch of the NAACP as well as a past 1st vice-president of the Florida State Conference of NAACP Branches.He is the author of the book “Our Faults: Conversations on the State of Affairs in Modern Black America”.

• 2000 Florida State Conference of NAACP’s “Gwendolyn Cherry-Sawyer” Award
• 2000 United States Census’ “Leadership in Partnership” Award,
• 1996 & 2002 Tallahassee Community College’s “NAACP Outstanding Black Achievers”.
• 1995 Tallahassee Alumni Chapter Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. "Man of the Year”

He is a Golden Heritage Lifetime Member of the NAACP, a Master Mason in the Prince Hall Affiliate Freemasonry (J.R.E. Lee Sr Lodge #422), and a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. He is a member of Bethel AME Church in Tallahassee, Florida. “Dr. V” is married to Dr. Diane Wynn-Viegbesie, and they have six children.
